Jamie has been at Sunset since June 2014, as an experienced veterinary assistant. She has been in the veterinary industry for 15 years! She started out as a kennel attendant in a large veterinary practice in Sacramento and worked her way up to a veterinary assistant for a veterinary dental specialist, Dr. Kornfeld. Jamie has attended a veterinary technology program and has gained experience in patient care, client education and emergency medicine. She really has become an essential part of the patient care team at Sunset! Jamie loves to do many things in her free time. She loves to make jewelry for her family and friends and has been known to sell a few pieces along the way! She gets outdoors every chance she gets to see our beautiful Pacific coast or just to take mini adventures to the mountains! Her 15 year old cat "Andy" prefers her to stay at home and watch Animal Planet with him. For exercise, Jamie loves to do Yoga and acrobats on the trampoline with her nephews! She resides with her brother James, sister-in-law Corina, nephews; James, Tyler, and Brandon. The life of the house is the dynamic duo, "Marley" and "Zoe"the enthusiastic Boxer and Chihuahua! Jamie says the thing she likes most about the veterinary industry is her patients and the bonds she makes with them, while they are under her care. She says one of the most important parts of the healing process is making them feel calm and comfortable by trying to do things that relieve their stress and one of the ways to accomplish that is to talk to them and give them all hugs!
Shalyn came to Sunset Animal Hospital in June 2014, as a veterinary technician assistant. She worked at Sixx Flags Discovery Kingdom in the food department for a year prior to coming to our hospital. Before working at Sixx Flags, she was a server for Applebees restaurant for 3 years. She graduated January 2014 from Animal Behavior College with a certificate in veterinary assisting. Her heart is in wild animal medicine and she plans on pursuing that as a career. Shalyn enjoys music; in fact, she played the violin for 10 years! Also, she has a love for sports and enjoys playing soccer and volleyball. She spends her free time with her fiancé and they are expecting their first child in March 2015; a baby boy! Her mother, sister and niece are as equally excited for their new arrival! Her family of fur consists of "Ella", her 4 year old Boxer and "Trooper", her 3 year old cat that she rescued as a kitten. Shalyn says her favorite thing about veterinary medicine is receiving hugs and kisses from all of our patients! In addition, she loves being in a fast paced emergency environment which allows her to constantly learn, educate and save lives, while having fun at the same time!
Daryl joined the Sunset team in September 2014, as a veterinary assistant. Prior to Sunset she worked in the restaurant industry for a year and prior to that she worked for Iron Country Road Commission driving a dump truck! She attended Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, MI for a year. Next, she became certified as a veterinary assistant through the Animal Behavior College Program. Daryl has come to California by way of the military, because her husband Taylor is serving our country through the United States Air Force. Now they are taking time to explore California, especially our winter sports. Daryl has been snowboarding for 11 years! In addition, she loves to do everything outdoors; hiking, boating, camping, ice-fishing and snowmobiling. While she loves to be outdoors, she also loves to sit at home with her dog, "Khaleesi", reading a good book. She gets to travel to Michigan to visit her mother, father and older sister and Arkansas, to visit her middle sister. Daryl says her favorite part of veterinary medicine is being able to watch healthy animals walk out of the hospital with their loving owners after having entered ill or injured.
Aly joined the Sunset team in September 2015, as a veterinary assistant. Prior to Sunset she worked as a customer relations representative, sales associate and she was a Nanny for 10 years! She had a few career options that she was wavering on and was reminded how much she loved animals when she worked at PetCo. She obtained certification as a Phlebotomist from Blake Austin College and following that she became a Certified Veterinary Assistant from Animal Behavior College.
Aly is a sports fanatic! She loves baseball and football and she enjoys playing softball and riding quads. She played an excellent first base on our Sunset softball team! Aly has been married since 2011 and her family lives in Georgia. Her house is shared with her two kitties, “Manchester” and “Rooney”. For relaxation she is able to enjoy the peace and tranquility of her 55 gallon fish tank!
Aly says her favorite part of veterinary medicine is helping the animals be happy and loved in every way; subsequently, this makes her feel happy as well.
Maggie came to us in October 2014, as a Client Service Representative. She is currently attending Solano Community College and is studying to get into the human radiology field. She is new to the veterinary industry and is looking forward to being part of the Sunset Team!
In Maggie’s free time, she enjoys listening to music and she too is a creative person and uses painting and sculpting as her outlet! She has a very close family and they do everything together! Her father served our country for 20 years in the United States Air Force and now is retired. Her brother has followed in his father’s footsteps and is now serving our country in the United States Air Force, stationed in Georgia. Her furry family of kitties are "Snugglebug", 18 years old and "Purrs A lot" and "Swiper" both 4 years old!
Maggie’s favorite part of the veterinary industry is experiencing all of the different types of animals and being able to be part of the team that makes the patients healthy and clients happy!
